Dorothy Ankunda

Dorothy Ankunda is the founder of Bio-Earth Reboot, an initiative that began as a project called Biogas Horizon, aimed at converting cow dung into clean cooking energy in rural Western Uganda. As her understanding deepened and she engaged with communities affected by energy poverty and environmental degradation, Dorothy expanded her mission. Bio-Earth Reboot now reflects a broader vision to restore the environment and empower communities with sustainable, circular solutions that reconnect people, energy, and the planet.
One of her most impactful initiatives took place in Kasese, Uganda—a region struggling with deforestation and flooding. Partnering with the Kenneth Kakuru Earth Reboot Initiative, Dorothy led a riverbank restoration campaign focused on replanting indigenous trees and educating communities about the risks of erosion and flood damage.
She also collaborated with St. Theresa Girls School in Nsenyi to install a biogas system, providing a clean, renewable alternative to firewood. Through these efforts, Dorothy has learned that effective environmental solutions must be interconnected, rooted in local context, and built on community trust.
