Helene Farrell Bee

Sustainability Zone

Helene Farrell Bee is an innovator dedicated to addressing the loss of traditional seaweed knowledge in eastern Indonesia, despite its potential for sustainable food systems, local economies, and climate resilience. She is developing a solution that documents traditional uses of seaweed, raises awareness, and pilots value-added seaweed initiatives to empower communities. By focusing on this work, she aims to revive cultural food practices, support livelihoods, and position seaweed as a sustainable food and export opportunity. This work is deeply personal to her because she has seen firsthand how coastal knowledge is undervalued, and she is determined to preserve it before it disappears. With determination and vision, Helene is paving the way for sustainable solutions that make a real difference.
