Jing Jie Tan

Tan Jing Jie is an innovator dedicated to tackling unsustainable tourism practices. He is developing Gotong Royong, a mobile application inspired by the Malay concept of collective effort, which encourages tourists to take part in clean-up activities while supporting local entrepreneurs. His project reduces the environmental footprint of tourism and creates shared economic opportunities, fostering a model where people and planet thrive together. For Tan, this mission is deeply personal—he believes tourism should empower communities and preserve culture rather than exploit them. With determination and vision, he is working to reshape tourism into a driver of sustainability, heritage, and community well-being.
