Omera Khan is an innovator dedicated to addressing water waste in agriculture, where small farmers lose half their water to flood irrigation. She is developing a solution that replaces flood irrigation with solar-powered smart irrigation kits, cutting water use by 60% and boosting yields by 30%. Farmers pay in micro-installments via mobile money, with proven savings of $140 per farm per season in Punjab trials. By focusing on this work, she aims to build a sustainable farming model that protects water supplies, boosts farmer incomes, and scales across water-scarce regions worldwide. This work is deeply personal to her because every wasted drop means less food and more poverty for farmers. Having seen water scarcity devastate livelihoods, she is committed to justice for farming communities. With determination and vision, Omera is paving the way for sustainable solutions that make a real difference.
