Responsible Consumption & Production

Sohyun Cho, hailing from Germany, is the visionary force behind Duara, a groundbreaking initiative addressing the pressing issues of textile waste management and poverty in the Global South. With a staggering 78.2 million tons of textile waste clogging Southern landfills and posing a severe threat to local communities, Sohyun is dedicated to driving change. By harnessing Northern technological advancements, Duara transforms textile waste into valuable raw materials, offering a range of applications from industrial use to clothing production. This innovative approach not only mitigates environmental pollution but also generates employment opportunities with improved working conditions, ultimately uplifting those affected by textile waste economically.

Driven by a deep-seated passion for sustainability and social justice, Sohyun is on a mission to prevent the tragic fate of beautiful garments ending up in Southern landfills illegally, causing harm to communities and the environment. Through Duara, she aims to bring about tangible change by cleaning up textile waste from Global South landfills and empowering marginalized communities through advocacy and economic opportunities. Join Sohyun Cho and Duara in their quest for a cleaner, fairer future for all.
