Water Management

Shreya Kaushik, a passionate environmentalist from India, is dedicated to tackling the pressing issue of water pollution in local water bodies. Witnessing the degradation of her community's rainwater harvesting pond, Johar, into a dumping ground for waste, and the alarming presence of toxic foams in the river Yamuna during festive times, Shreya was inspired to take action. Her innovative project focuses on employing an Eco-Friendly Floating Membrane, a groundbreaking combination of floating wetland and nano-cellulose membrane utilizing bioremediation and nanotechnology to combat contaminants caused by human activities like solid waste, agricultural waste, and industrial waste, as well as eutrophication.

Shreya's solution not only aims to restore biodiversity and clean the water in local bodies like Johar but also has the potential to be adapted for various water bodies, including oceans, benefiting communities and the planet at large. By reducing emissions, supporting aquatic life, and decreasing waterborne diseases, Shreya's project is set to make a significant impact on the environment and the well-being of her community.
