Reggie Joseph Okoko
Reggie Joseph Okoko, a passionate advocate for sustainable fishing practices in Kenya, is on a mission to revolutionize the fishing industry in the Lake Victoria region. With a deep understanding of the challenges faced by fisherfolk, Reggie is dedicated to reducing post-harvest losses and improving the livelihoods of those dependent on the fishing trade.
Born and raised in the Luo community near Lake Victoria, Reggie has witnessed firsthand the struggles of fisher communities and the impact of post-harvest losses on their way of life. With the fishing industry yielding 1 million tons of fish annually but facing a 40% loss due to lack of cold storage facilities, Reggie's project focuses on implementing solar-powered cold storage solutions to preserve the quality of the catch.
By extending the shelf life of fish and ensuring their freshness, Reggie's initiative not only reduces waste but also enables fishermen to command better prices in the market. Through his innovative approach, Reggie aims to create a sustainable future for the fishing industry in the Lake Victoria region, benefiting both the environment and the livelihoods of fisherfolk.
