Olusegun Obasanjo
Olusegun Obasanjo is a dedicated individual based in Kenya, committed to addressing the critical issue of water scarcity and high water stress affecting over 8 million pastoralists in the arid and semi-arid lands of the country due to climate change. With a deep understanding of the challenges faced by communities in these regions, Olusegun has embarked on a transformative project aimed at enhancing water security and reducing stress levels through sustainable water resource management.
Driven by a passion to make a tangible difference in the lives of those impacted by water insecurity, Olusegun's project focuses on leveraging portable solar panels and pumps, as well as drilling boreholes to increase water sources. By harnessing renewable solar energy in alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 7 (Affordable & Clean Energy), this initiative not only provides a sustainable solution to water scarcity but also empowers communities and contributes to the fight against climate change.
Living in Kenya's arid regions, Olusegun has witnessed firsthand the devastating effects of water insecurity, including gender-based violence, security threats, poverty, school dropouts, and intercommunity conflicts. Through the implementation of this project, Olusegun aims to bring about positive change by ensuring access to clean water, reducing conflict over scarce resources, enabling educational continuity, improving safety, and alleviating poverty in the affected areas.
With a strong commitment to grassroots capacity building and cooperative water management, Olusegun Obasanjo's project represents a beacon of hope for communities in arid regions, offering a sustainable and impactful solution to the pressing challenges of water scarcity and high stress levels.
