Lizzy Leigh Makhubela
Lizzy Leigh Makhubela, a passionate innovator from South Africa, is dedicated to improving the lives of students and marginalized communities by addressing the challenges of load shedding and lack of access to clean energy. With a vision to reduce the impact of load shedding on students' ability to complete their school work, Lizzy is designing an innovative energy backpack that generates clean energy as students walk to and from school. This energy can power appliances, enabling students to continue their studies even during power outages.
Driven by the devastating consequences of energy-related issues in her community, such as illegal connections and health problems, Lizzy aims to provide a sustainable solution to electricity access in South Africa. By reducing reliance on coal-generated electricity and promoting affordable, clean energy solutions, her project has the potential to create a safer and more sustainable future for students and communities. Lizzy's work not only addresses the immediate challenges of load shedding but also contributes to a greener, more sustainable energy sector in South Africa.
