Geofrey Junior Waako
Geofrey Junior Waako, hailing from Uganda, is a passionate advocate for addressing the triple threat challenge of food insecurity, environmental degradation, and economic scarcity in the Masese slum. Recognizing the dire situation faced by residents who lack access to nutritious food, struggle with waste management issues, and have limited economic opportunities, Geofrey founded the Masese AquaFarm Initiative.
This innovative initiative tackles these challenges head-on by implementing sustainable vertical aquaponic systems, promoting waste reduction through recycling, and creating economic opportunities for the community. Geofrey is dedicated to improving food security, fostering environmental stewardship, and empowering residents to achieve economic independence. His commitment stems from a deep concern for his community's health, environment, and economic stability.
Geofrey envisions the Masese AquaFarm Initiative as a scalable model that not only enhances food security, reduces environmental impact, and creates economic opportunities locally but also sets a precedent for sustainable urban agriculture and economic resilience in other slum communities. Through his work, Geofrey aims to improve the quality of life, build resilience, and inspire positive change in communities facing similar challenges.
