Elza Duka
Elza Duka i is a passionate environmental activist based in Poland, dedicated to addressing the urgent environmental challenges facing the country. With 90% of rivers in Poland in poor condition and 97% of the Baltic Sea suffering from eutrophication, Elza is committed to making a difference. In response to the devastating impact of toxic blue-green algae, such as the Odra catastrophe which led to the death of 360 tons of fish in 2022, Elza has spearheaded a groundbreaking project.
Her innovative initiative focuses on cleaning the shores from blue-green algae and transforming them into organic filament for 3D printing. This filament is then used to create air filters for anti-air-pollution masks integrated into scarfs and clothes. By involving local communities in the cleaning and processing of algae, as well as organizing creative workshops on 3D printing, Elza is not only addressing environmental and health concerns but also providing educational and engagement opportunities for youth and students.
Elza's project aligns with the growing concerns of the younger generation about sustainability and environmental preservation. By offering a practical solution to environmental hazards and biodiversity dangers caused by various industries in the region, Elza is empowering individuals to contribute to sustainable solutions and learn about the importance of protecting the environment for future generations.
