Catherine Waweru
Catherine Waweru, a dedicated environmental advocate from Kenya, is on a mission to revolutionize waste management in the realm of electric vehicles, with a specific focus on lithium-ion batteries. Recognizing the imminent surge of e-mobility in Kenya and the consequential waste stream of batteries, Catherine is determined to tackle this issue head-on. Her innovative project aims to recycle lithium-ion batteries and repurpose them as energy storage units for solar systems in rural, off-grid areas. By creating a sustainable business model, implementing cutting-edge recycling technologies, and prioritizing safety, Catherine envisions a future where discarded batteries are transformed into valuable resources, reducing environmental harm and promoting sustainable energy solutions.
Driven by a passion for environmental conservation and inspired by the positive impact of electric vehicles in reducing carbon emissions, Catherine understands the urgency of proper battery disposal. Through her project, she not only aims to mitigate environmental contamination and potential hazards posed by discarded batteries but also seeks to empower communities through electrification, economic growth, environmental awareness, and job creation. With a vision to repurpose lithium-ion batteries to 95% efficiency and benefit underserved areas through renewable energy solutions, Catherine's project stands as a beacon of hope for a cleaner, greener future.
