Waste Management

Sharifah Nakyanzi, a recent graduate with a bachelor's degree in Biosystems from Uganda, is dedicated to addressing the pressing issue of poor waste management in urban areas, particularly in city central markets. Her project, now named Vermi_Cycle, focuses on utilizing vermicomposting technology to transform organic waste into nutrient-rich fertilizers. With a vision to contribute to positive change not only in her community but globally, Sharifah's innovative design of vermicomposting beds aims to efficiently utilize small spaces to process large quantities of organic waste.

Through Vermi_Cycle, Sharifah aims to improve sanitation and promote good health among market workers while providing smallholder farmers in Uganda with access to affordable organic fertilizers.
